Food and Cancer

Food and Cancer
by Chris K. H. Teo & Ch'ng Beng Im
Every year, more evidence accumulates that what we eat determines the progress of our healing or can have a great influence on whether we get sick or not. Today, we are aware that the causes of 70% of cancers are related to our food and lifestyle. Apart from this, as Western ways of life gain popularity in developing countries, more and more people are getting cancers.

In this book, we discuss the concept of nutrition from the point of view of both modern science and traditional Chinese dietary wisdom. We have tried to be as concise as possible as we advise you on what food to avoid and what food is good for health.

The choice to stay healthy or to get sick is entirely yours. You are responsible for your own well being. Make that choice wisely!

Excerpts from the book

Preface

This book is written not by choice but out of necessity. The sick who came to see us have worn-out bodies. To us, these bodies reflect a serious imbalance and disharmony that occur within. One of the main causes of such  a problem is diet. So, apart from taking herbs and leading a stress-free life, we advise patients to eat healthy food.

There is a saying: The healthy have many wishes, the sick have only one!  Very true indeed -- when people are sick, they will listen to our advice willingly but when they are well, they come back to us grumbling. All the time, a primary matter of concern is what they can eat. Or at times, the herbs taste bad! We spend hours and hours each week talking to people about food ?at times we wonder if we should start a cooking school instead. We are fully aware that our advice on diet is not in tune with that which most  people are  accustomed to. But what choice do we have? If the conventional method of treatments has failed you, you have no other choice but to look elsewhere for healing ?that is, if you want to live.

In this book, we have tried to be as concise and practical as possible in our suggestions. It is impossible to list out everything that you cannot eat or tell you everything about the food that you should eat. We only hope that when you read what is written, your horizon is widened so that you can see beyond your old ways. You will discover that there are many things in this world that make good, healthy food. In reality, reading and following suggestions can solve your problem. But not many people like to read.

There is a Chinese saying: The road to health is the road of knowledge. Knowing ignorance is strength and ignoring knowledge is sickness. Similarly, Socrates once said: There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.  Therefore we would like to tell you too, there is no need to throw up your hands in despair! Read, search and try out new ways of eating. Make your healing journey one of fun and excitement. Kindly stop grumbling for this is bad food for the soul.
