Epal merupakan buah pomaceous dari pokok epal, spesies Malus domestica dalam keluarga mawar Rosaceae. Ia adalah salah satu dari pokok buah yang paling meluas ditanam. Pokok ini kecil decidous, mencapai 5-12 m tinggi, dengan lebar, selalunya mahkota berpadat beranting. Tahukah anda dengan memakan sebiji epal setiap hari selain ia mampu menyihatkan tubuh malah ia juga turut membantu kita menjauhi atau mengurangkan pelbagai jenis penyakit. Antara penyakit-penyakitnya adalah seperti penyakit jantung, asma, kanser kolon, kanser prostat, kanser paru-paru dan sabagainya. Seperti kebanyakan buah-buahan yang lain buah epal juga turut mengandungi vitamin C Disamping itu jugabuah epal ini memiliki sebatian antioksida lain, yang boleh mengurangkan risiko kanser dengan menghalang kerosakan DNA. Asid deoksiribonukleik (DNA) merupakan komponen kimia dimana ia merupakan kromosom yang utama dan merupakan bahan yang menghasilkan gen dalam badan manusia. Untuk bahagian penyimpanan rumah pula, kebanyakan aneka epal boleh disimpan selama kira-kira dua minggu, apabila disimpan pada bahagian paling sejuk dari peti sejuk.
